Ribwort Plantain Tea

for cough and sore throat

Ribwort Plantain has been renowned for its wound healing properties but its powers reach further than that. It’s also a perfect relief for a variety of coughs – from asthma to hoarseness. If you smoke and cough, then this herb may help you as well.

The infusion is simple to make and I’ve prepared it having my own kids in mind. I give it to my 7-year-old son when his cough intensifies and continues for a longer period of time.

Ingredients:
  • 2 handfuls of fresh or dried ribwort plantain leaves
  • 2 cups of water

Preparation:
  1. If you use fresh leaves of ribwort, wash them well. Cut or tear the leaves into smaller pieces, put in a jug and pour over boiling water.
  2. Cover and leave for at least 20 minutes to infuse.
  3. Drink warm 2-3 times a day.

For children, I dilute the tea in proportion 1:1, so a 1/2 cup of infusion mixed with a 1/2 cup of warm boiled water.
