Everyday Herbal Tea

I love drinking this tea instead of regular black or lemon tea. It's got a distinctive herbal flavour with a hint of anise and I enjoy this cuppa with a tablespoon of St.Hildegard's Wine (recipe here).

It's also got the power of herbs: marjoram and aniseed help ease bad colds, headaches and they allay shattered nerves too. Marjoram has been used for hyperactivity in children whereas aniseed is said to soothe a fretful child.

Interestingly, evening primrose is also known as king's cure-all :)

Star anise is an antioxidant with antibacterial properties. But, ensure to purchase Chinese star anise from a reputable or trustworthy company or source that you know and trust. There have been cases of Chinese star anise being adulterated with Japanese star anise which is poisonous. If you're not sure of the origin, don't use it at all.

On the final note, I used dried herbs to prepare this infusion.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon marjoram
  • 1 tablespoon evening primrose flowers
  • 1 tablespoon aniseed
  • 1 tablespoon hawthorn fruit
  • 3 Chinese star anise

Preparation:

Place all the herbs in a pot or teapot, cover with boiling water and let infuse for 15 minutes.
Drink and enjoy :) Dilute with warm/ hot water if preferred.
