To me, the aroma of cinnamon has always been foretelling winter. I remember my mum baking gingerbread cake for Christmas or cooking a rice apple and cinnamon pudding on cold snowy days. The fragrant and sweet flavour of cinnamon was the one we were craving for after a long day of play in the snow.
Although available throughout the whole year, cinnamon has been one of the most popular winter spices. And the reason for that is: this powerful antioxidant has got many medicinal properties too.
Not only does it balance blood sugar levels, but for ages it's been known and used as a remedy for colds, infections and flu. Its warming qualities have positive influence on our bodies bringing the heat we need during winter months.
Cinnamon also boosts energy and assists brain function - this is especially important in winter when days are short and the sunshine exposure is very limited leaving many of us drowsy, sluggish and depressed.
So, restore yourself this winter with this aromatic drink :)
